Yesterday, Ian Welsh wrote a post laying out pathways for the U.S. to collapse.
For me, doom has many pathways. These can happen in close sequence.
The fiscal damage from the loss of three aircraft carriers will be horrendous. I say three because at the moment that seems to be all that the Navy can keep seaworthy out of the eleven.
The shit happens event: a major Northwest region earthquake.
The all too predictable: big time hurricanes, tornadoes and wildfires.
The science was right: deadly heatwaves, soil erosion and aquifer depletion.
When it’s little old you: the money to care for your health just can’t be found.
Dealing with natural disasters is impossible for a populous racked with disease. The toll for COVID, which studies show how infections lurk in one’s body, is coming.
The wealth disparity in the U.S. is shameful. This will exacerbate our decline.
