Watching the race right now. The roughly 30 member front group which includes Mathieu van der Poel (MVDP) is averaging 50.3 kph at the moment. That is a record pace over cobble sections most sane people would not contemplate walking or running over.
If MVDP repeats as champion today, he will do so as the current world road champion. The first to do so since the great Peter Sagan in 2018.
